In many rural communities across Akwa Ibom State, a journey to fetch water can take hours — hours that should be spent in school, at work, or simply resting. Waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid are common, not because people are careless, but because safe water is simply out of reach.
The Akan Ime Foundation's Clean Water Initiative is designed to permanently change this reality. By constructing boreholes and rehabilitating existing water points in underserved communities, we are bringing safe, clean drinking water directly to households that need it most.
The impact goes beyond quenching thirst. When women and girls no longer spend half their day fetching water, they have time to participate in economic activities and attend school. When children drink clean water, they miss fewer school days due to illness. Communities thrive when their most basic needs are met.
